One year ago today I sat at my parent’s kitchen table at a very transitional time in my life. I was coming to an end with my year with Charlie and had no idea what the upcoming year had in store for me. I was scared of how lonely I would be not having my pup around to keep me company, but excited by the possibility of having some freedom.
As I pondered over this transition, I thought about starting a blog. I mean, I had been reading them for months now. A healthy living blog seemed fitting, a way to track my journey as I tried to keep on track with eating right and exercising when I didn’t have Charlie to keep me accountable.
What started as a bit of an exercise and food log quickly evolved into something so much more. Through blogging I was inspired by the different people I met. More and more I began to run and quickly signed up for my first half marathon. While injury may have stopped me from actually running my half, the inspiration I felt still lingered. Because I couldn’t run I was motivated to try other forms of exercise – I went to my first spin class and fell in love, began to strength train again (and even created some of my own workouts!), and tried out body pump. I quickly became excited by all of the possibilities out there which, quite honestly, I’m not sure if I would’ve been inspired to try if it wasn’t for this little old blog that I took a chance on a year ago.
I also tried my hand at creating recipes. This was definitely new to me – I always liked throwing things together, but I became much more inspired to create healthier recipes (for the most part) to share!
Finally, I am still amazed that in addition to how this blog has changed my life, it has also led me to meet so many amazing people. I have connected with so many different people simply from sharing my story on the my little corner of the internet. I still can’t believe that I’ve made real-life friendships with people who I never would have met if it wasn’t for Racing Bananas. I’m so thankful that one year ago today as I sat in my parent’s kitchen that I decided to take the plunge and start this journey.
Here’s to the next year!
